Description: Fibre Design Automation

The context:

As part of the rollout of our fibre optic network, it is essential to have a high-performance network that can be installed at the customer's site in a cost-efficient manner.
This network is therefore designed using the latest applications, which enable us to design such optimised networks in a short space of time.

Job content:

You will work within a small team on the future of the (automatic) design of fibre optic networks (network design). Specific software is used for this (Comsof Fiber). This software is regularly updated. It is either adapted to the latest design rules, optimised together with the supplier, or searches for the best adjustments by means of simulations.

Your tasks will be to create and check network designs, to constantly evolve the tools used and to optimise the input data used. In addition, special projects or simulations are regularly carried out.

- You ensure that the necessary input data is available to be able to make the designs. This data can come from various sources, e.g. GRB, URBIS, PICC, street survey data, ...
- You monitor the data quality of this input, which is necessary for the design routines to work (possibly by using specific tools).
- You know the design rules that are applied in the routines
- You check the calculated designs

You make use of tools and algorithms used within geographical design tools (typically GIS applications, e.g. QGIS).

Besides the design function, you play an important role in the continuous optimisation of the tools used. This may be by formulating process improvements yourself, and discussing these with the various actors in the process, or by optimising the ecosystem in which you work. These can be adjustments to IT applications and/or architecture, proposing automations, adding intelligence, etc.

Competences required:

Master degree
Minimum of 3 years' experience with GIS tools (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.) Minimum of 3 years' experience with programming in a GIS environment (Python, FME) Experience with processing large quantities of data (big data) and experience with monitoring data quality within such an environment Knowledge of network construction (fibre optic/copper) or experience within the telcom world is an advantage

Other competences:

You work accurately, you have an eye for detail You have a strong analytical mind, you are not afraid to solve complex problems You have a good sense of space and an affinity with geo-matter You are communicative, you can give presentations You like working in a team Good knowledge of Dutch, French and English
