As Data Architect within our Data & Analytics team, you play an instrumental role in the realization of this vision by designing solutions that allow the flow of data through the enterprise. Your key activities are the following:

  • You translate business requirements into solutions allowing to efficiently collect, store, transform, distribute, visualize and use data. You assist the delivery teams throughout the implementation insuring what gets built is in line with the strategy and plans.
  • You participate to the definition of the future data architecture of SNCB/NMBS in alignment with the strategic objectives of the company. Under the leadership of the Enterprise Architects and together with the delivery teams, you participate to the elaboration of the reference data architecture framework, standards and principles, technological choices, and implementation roadmap.
  • Together with the data platform teams, you constantly evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of our data platform, and you identify and design the necessary changes and improvements to make sure the platform performs as required and allows data engineers, data scientists and data analysts throughout the company to do their work.
  • You take an active role in the data governance processes of NMBS/SNCB, insuring business glossaries, data quality measures and tools, and data security policies are in place and applied. You insure meta-data is managed correctly and participate in the set-up and improvement of our data catalog.
  • Your collaborate and coordinate with multiple departments, stakeholders, partners, and external vendors. You work together with the business, the different data & analytics delivery teams within the company, and the enterprise architecture teams.

Your profile

  • You have a Master’s degree (preferably in computer science) or equivalent by experience.
  • You have a first relevant professional experience as a data architect and have worked for some years as a developer in Data & Analytics - you understand the system development life cycle, project management approaches, and requirements/design/test techniques.
  • You have knowledge of Data Architecture principles (e.g. Data as a Product).
  • You understand the importance of Data Governance and have experience in its application.
  • You are capable of thinking in abstract and conceptual ways and are able to convey the big data picture to others
  • You have proven experience in data modeling and design
  • You have proven experience in Microsoft Azure - Azure Data Factory - Azure ML Studio - Azure Synaps - Azure Analysis Services - PowerBI
  • Having experience in SAP BW/BW4, SAP Analytics Cloud
  • You have affinity and knowledge of both established and emerging data technologies
  •  
    • you understand established data management and reporting technologies
    • you have some knowledge of columnar and NoSQL databases, predictive analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence, data visualization, and unstructured data
  • Knowledge of data quality, data catalogue and data security frameworks is a plus.
     
  • You are a born mentor and coach. Ideally, you are used to working with offshore teams.
  • You have a good knowledge of English and of Dutch or French (knowledge of the second national language is considered an asset).
